Arriving in Bunaken was like coming home even without having been here before. The early morning landing in Manado made me arrive at the resort at 7am, perfect for having breakfast, getting familiar and doing the first dive at 11 that day. What a great way to start my 6 weeks here in Bunaken.
The first couple of days I have spent doing the Rescue Diver Course and the EFR course which were really fun and some of the staff here in Bunaken made really great victims. So after rescuing half of the Two Fish Diver crew I have started with the Dive Master Program. The last 2 days I have been assisting in the first Open Water course with Dion and I am very happy that the 2 students Lucia and Jordan are enjoying their course as much as I do. Finding lots of trumpetfish, turtles, a big lobster, porcupine puffer fish, a group of black snappers and many others we had a great time during their first and second Open Water Dives. It was very fullfilling to actually contribute to someone’s joy in diving and I enjoyed to be part of someone’s first dive experience. It makes me think of my first dive and that I will also never forget those impressions.
Additionally to that Markko is explaining the dark art of Nitrox gas blending to me…at least that’s what he calls it. And after 2 afternoons spending with theory, calculations and formulas, he teaches me more about Trimix Gas blending.
To my great pleasure I can combine my DM program with technical diving and I was already able to do several side mount and Twinset dives to prepare for the Trimix course in about a week. What better place to do so around Nain Island and exploring some new dive spots around that area.
So plenty of theory for me to study right now but all the more challenging and enjoyable.
