Divemaster internship first few days – Bunaken
I’ve now been on the Two Fish Divers resort in Bunaken for well over a week working my way through the PADI courses for “Advanced Open Water”, “Emergency First Response” and “Rescue Diver” to finally be able to start the “Dive Master” course.
My reason for doing a dive master is simply that I want to become a better diver. Most likely I will never work with diving professionally, but I do want my skills to reach a level that I can be proud of.
I actually took my “Open Water” certificate at Bunaken 2010 and the superb diving is why I decided to come back to do my Divemaster at the same location. I just love floating by those lovely coral-covered walls.
The “Dive Master” course follows a semi-strict schedule over four weeks, consisting of a mix of practical exercises (skills) and theory. From the first day I was pleasantly surprised about the structure of the course and I was given a course schedule and an introduction that made it perfectly clear what was expected of me in the internship as well as giving me the opportunity to voice my own expectations. The positive attitude and professionalism from my instructors Karoline and Dion and the overall welcome from Two Fish Divers and the crew has been fantastic.
Since I’m only two days into the “Dive Master” course, I can’t say much more about that besides that my skills need (a lot of) work. You forget quite a lot over three years even when you have only made fun dives in between courses!
Luckily, there is room for fun diving and hanging out in the well-stocked beach bar as well!
So, I’m looking foward to a busy week and I’ll keep you posted on the progress.
Hi there
I’m thinking of heading over there for a diving holiday in a couple weeks time but would like to know if the flooding in Mamado has caused any water quality issues or affected the diving at all. Would it be wiser for me to delay my trip? Thanks, Lesley
