This week in Lembeh we’ve had some star finds with lots of Lembeh Sea Dragons, plus some extra special critters – Mototi Octopus and Randall’s Frogfish.
Mototi Octopus (Poison Ocellate Octopus) is one of the rarest octopus to see in Lembeh so our guide Rein was super excited to find one this week! On the same dive he also found a Randall’s Frogfish! All Octopus and Frogfish are fantastic to observe but these two are extra special… Even in Lembeh where we are spoilt with rare critters on a daily basis, there are some extra special finds that we get extra excited about – And these are two of them!
Lembeh Sea Dragons are a fairly recent scientific discovery (2008) and we learn more and more about them as time goes on – Their behaviour and habitat specifically – And it is this added knowledge which helps our guides find them much more easily compared to when they first came on the scene.
Our “regulars” have also been spotted out and about this week… Certainly no shortage of Flamboyant Cuttlefish! Also the Coconut, Mimic and Wunderpus Octopus, Ornate Ghost Pipefish, Melibe nudibranch, Warty, Painted and Shaggy Frogfish, Hairy Shrimp, Bumblebee Shrimp, and a good range of Seahorses with Denise, Bargibanti and Pontohi pygmies as well as Common and Thorny Seahorses!
Thanks to Keith for the photo of the Lembeh Sea Dragon!
