This week in Belongas South Lombok we have been especially lucky with Hammerheads, Barracuda, Tuna, White tip reef sharks, eagle rays, Banded sea snakes and hundreds of Mobula rays. Every day we have had two boats going out and coming back with extremely happy divers.
Gili Sarang has a short span in which the Mobula rays hang around, but when they do they come in great packs. So far we have encountered 4 different schools ranging from 35-70 individuals in each.
When dropping on the east side of the rock, we descend down to 23 meters and wait. Shortly after, they arrive from the blue surrounding the dive site and boulders that lurk beneath the surface. They are extremely graceful, elegant and a true wonder to come across during the dive. We spend a good 20 minutes in one spot just watching, videoing and taking pictures.
I am extremely happy to announce that we have conducted our very first Advanced open water course for Alberto, Sarah and Marvin down here in in Belongas. It has been an adventure and luckily for us the surface has been calm. We dived in the front of Belongas Bay lodge and 3 dive sites just out the bay: Gili Sarang, Gili Wayan and Soft Soral.
Soft Coral was a first for me and a truly beautiful dive site with schools of reef fish, Pygmy seahorse, squat lobsters, bat fish and a colourful range of soft and hard corals covering boulders and rocks, a great dive site to conduct the Advanced Navigation dive. We are looking forward for more Advanced courses to come.
