So there will be no more posts about visibility here at Bunaken. After last week bragging of 50+M viz, that cold upwelling must have brought with it a lot of nutrients as we have had a plankton bloom and the viz has dropped to 10-15M in places! That may not sound too bad for a lot of you but its pretty much unheard of here.
Despite the lack of our usual crystal waters the divers are having a great time- the plankton bloom is causing a lot of fish activity, big schools of fusiliers and big mouth mackerel, joining our resident schools of red tooths and pyramid butterfly fish. Of course there is a lot of pelagic activity taking advantage of the abundance of fish. Big Napoleons hunting with trevally buddies, Giant Trevallies and some good shark action.
We also welcome two new divers to the community, Jonathan and Christiane from Germany came to us to do their open water. Christiane was pretty nervous especially on the first dive descending down a buoyline into the green- no reef in sight! She overcame her fears and they both had a great course; Christiane even found out she likes sharks after all!
Check out their trim by the way, not bad for dive 4!
