This week in Lembongan… We are starting our high season, and this year as previous years, we are having an increasing amount of visitors in our tiny paradise island. Curious about what is it that brings people over to Lembongan, we decided to go ahead and ask to some of those visitors the reasons why they included Lembongan in their holiday itinerary. The answers were so diverse that it surprised us! We thought it would be interesting to share some of these thoughts. Of course, manta rays and mola-mola or sunfish are some of the main reasons why divers come to Lembongan.
Here we can spot two species of manta rays: Manta Birrostris and Manta Alfredi. Both species are pelagic and migrate across open oceans, singly or in groups. In Lembongan we have spots where these gentle giants stop by for either feeding (feeding stations) or getting a “fish spa treatment” (cleaning stations).
Mola or Sunfish, is the heaviest bony fish in the world. There is two species of Mola: Mola mola and Mola Ramsayi. The latest is the one we can spot in Lembongan. Little is known about this cryptic gentle fish. They are thought to spend a long time in the deep (between 300 and 600mts), and scientist suggest that they come may come up to the surface either to warm up, or to get themselves cleaned of parasites in cleaning stations.
Apart from this unique sightings, divers and snorkelers come over to Lembongan because our beautiful island is inside the Coral Triangle….
Starting on the top of the Philipines, down to the Solomon Islands, then all the way to Sumatra, this area contains the world’s highest diversity of corals. When talking about corals, this area is referred to as The Coral Triangle.
At around 2.3 million square miles, this area is about half the size of United States and contains 75% of all marine species known to science, which makes it a top priority for marine conservation.
Over 600 species of corals can be found in the waters of Indonesia. And the reef shelters around 3000 different species of fish.
Besides marine life, we can also mention the beautiful beaches, quiet hide away and the relaxing island atmosphere that makes Lembongan unique and creates extraordinary memories for our guests and friends.
All in all, amazing Lembongan!
Because the diving fabulous, the island is lovely and the sunsets are out of this world..will be back soon.
