I arrived on to Bunaken on the 2nd July, the resort has a lovely feel – when I arrived some of the staff were singing and playing music in the bar, they we’re full of warm smiles and helped me settle in quickly. The room was comfy and had very regular fresh laundry, and the food was a great blend of western and Indonesian. Breakfast was amazing, cereal, toast, pancakes, French toast or eggs any way you want them to name a few options.
My previous diving experience was only 9 dives completing my OW and AOW two years ago so I knew I had a lot to learn and experience to gain in six weeks to complete my Divemaster.
To build up my hours I have completed five specialty courses; night, deep, enriched air nitric, drift and peak performance buoyancy. They were fun and informative and the PPB course really helped my control and air consumption! I then completed my EFR and Rescue course which everyone at Two Fish made a fun but challenging experience! In my last week I watched a complete beginner get in the pool an fly through his confined skills 1-3 which was very rewarding and has ignited my passion to one day become and instructor.
In that point, Markus and Yayan the instructors have kept me focused and busy, but made the course thoroughly enjoyable. From day one they were very approachable and helpful! Answering all of the many silly little questions I had. The dive guides are highly knowledgeable, friendly and have amazing eyes for spotting the small creatures camouflaged in the walls, my favorites being orangutan and decorator crabs.
In Bunaken the diving is walls or slopes mainly, but every dive felt different, and the coral biodiversity was healthy and in abundance. Diving here has also given me the chance to experience currents and drift diving both of which I found challenging but very useful for my progression as a diver.
Overall, my Divemaster training here in Bunaken has been truly memorable and I can’t wait to continue my course and development as a diver in Gili Air.
Thank you everyone!!!
Love,
Olivia
