Last month we welcomed Dani & Anna as our new Nusa Lembongan managers. Here is their story about how they gave up their jobs and living the “dream” by teaching in different places in the world, and finally ended up as the managers in Nusa Lembongan.
ONCE UPON A TIME…
Once upon a time, two nervous beginner divers from Barcelona, with just 4 dives under their belts, arrived to a small, quiet island and were immediately hooked by the charm of the island. The laid back atmosphere, the temples and Balinese architecture, the locals dressed up for the often happening ceremonies and the genuine smiles of the islanders made an immediate impact. Once they took a look underwater, for what would be just their fifth dive ever, the view of the multi-coloured coral reefs, schools of fishes and clear waters made them fall utterly in love with the place.
The beginner divers were us: Anna and Dani. And the island was, yes, you guessed well, Nusa Lembongan.
The second time we visited the island we were PADI Rescue Divers and the next time, we were Divemasters working in Thailand. We continued to visit the island numerous times even after we became instructors – we kept coming back, again and again. We always dreamed of living on the Island.
HOW EVERYTHING STARTED…
We started diving a few years back, on a long trip where we took a break from our “suit and tie” jobs and stressful life in the big city (well, what we thought it was a big city, till we started visiting Asian cities). Dani had studied Law first and, afterwards, Audiovisual Communication, and Anna had studied Maths.
During that long trip, we started diving in the Malaysian part of Borneo, from Sempurna. After that, we dived in Lembongan, followed by the Advanced course in Padang Bai and some more dives around Bali. From there we kept travelling and finished our trip in Koh Tao, were we took the Rescue Course and decided that we didn’t want to go back to that suit, tie and stress, so: Divemaster course, here we come!
After working as Divemasters and gaining some experience we took our Instructor courses and kept living the “dream” in different places in the world: 6 seasons in the Similan and Surin Islands teaching courses, doing day trips and working as Cruise Directors on Liveaboards for a couple of companies (where we gained a lot of experience in guest relations and management). We worked hard to learn about diving and resort holidays and to improve our skills and knowledge.
As well as these seasons on Thailand’s West Coast we worked in Koh Tao and we returned to Indonesia and had the immense pleasure of getting to know the waters of the Komodo National Park. We lived in Maui (Hawaii) and we even spent some summers working on the Catalan coast, South of Spain, Mallorca. We travelled, worked and learned – a lot!
After all of that time and great experiences we have come a step forward in our careers and are ready for our next challenge – and where better than the Island we always loved, in the country that we would never stop exploring, with its amazing people, its great culture and friendly language? When Two Fish gave us this opportunity to be the new managers in Nusa Lembongan, we didn’t hesitate!
We absolutely love Nusa Lembongan Island and we have stayed in Two Fish Divers resorts in the past (Lembeh, Amed and Lembongan) as guests, and we really enjoyed that feel of familiarity. Two Fish Resorts are perfect – not too big and not too small – and lots of personal touches.
Two Fish ensure small diving groups and they have the logistics of a company that has been in Indonesia for years and with experiences in different areas. We are extremely excited about this new challenge where we can apply all of our background and experiences. We can’t wait to welcome new Guests, work with the local staff, enjoy teaching and making the resort the best dive resort on Nusa Lembongan.
NEW NUSA LEMBONGAN MANAGERS
We can’t believe that after all these years and visits that here we are, new managers in Nusa Lembongan! We have been here for a month already, on the very island that we fell for years ago. We couldn’t be happier. We are also lucky enough to still be able to teach PADI courses and programs, from Discover Scuba Diving (Is there anything better than seeing the awe on people’s faces the first time they go scuba?) to helping people to become professional PADI Divemasters.
We really enjoy all kinds of dives: From the excitement of diving with the big fish to the treasure hunt style dives looking for small creatures. The reefs around Lembongan are breath taking and there is nothing like drifting over reefs full of soft corals, huge table corals and gardens of staghorn corals, massive sponges and weird tunicates. Here in Lembongan, we have all of it. How awesome!
This month has been amazing – we have dived with the manta rays, met the mola mola and have been able to share all of this with our guests. We can’t wait to welcome more divers to Lembongan and show them the super healthy reefs, the lazy drift dives, and the other marine creatures that surround these islands, from the Bamboo Sharks to Ghost pipefishes.
So here we are, waiting for all of you to come visit! Join the group of guests who have also had fantastic experiences:
TRIP ADVISOR REVIEWS
“The new managers in Nusa Lembongan are Anna and Daniel, two Spaniards with a lot of experience working throughout Southeast Asia and now focused on Two Fish Nusa Lembongan. In addition to striving to make everything work, they make an effort so that all of us there feel at home, talking about life, diving and other more mundane stories. Very comfortable. ” (Google translation)
“We spent 7 nights in Lembongan, 6 diving days. We really enjoyed our stay. The room was nice. The breakfast was fine and lunch is included during the diving days. Nice swimming pool. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the owners are very enthusiastic. Diving is very relaxed, the guides will do everything for you (cleaning, set up your tank). The only thing you have to do is breath. Manta bay is amazing. Thank you very much.”
