Full Power ahead! I have finished a few more chapters from my DM manual and have wrestled through many chapters of my instructors manual.
Just started my divemaster course !
I chose Two Fish Divers on Bunaken island because I had been there before. Two Fish Bunaken is located on the waterfront, just behind the mangrove forest.
“You…. Watch…. Me…” This week has been all about learning the skill circuit.
Part of the divemaster course is to learn the skill circuit. These are the skills that I will be able to use to teach a scuba review for a certified diver that has been out of the water for a long period of time and wishes to refresh their diving knowledge and skills.
Wow. It’s been a week already!! We are in full swing here in Bunaken. There are a variety of courses going on! I have been assisting with Ina, who is great. She explains everything really well and is also fun and a great role model for me. She’s calm. Lol.
Day 1: Today was my official start of my Dive Master Training! And yes I am doing the blog even though it’s day one. Lol. But I figured why not? Day one is actually a really important day and what I better way to celebrate it, then documenting it.
So here we are, at the end of a 5-week long training. I have completed my PADI divemaster internship, and it has been a wonderful experience through which I have been able to acquire a wide range of skills. It certainly has allowed me to expand my knowledge base of the diving industry.
Week 2 of my divemaster training- being a panic diver is quite an exercise
The past week I have been assisting on a rescue course. When I heard that Georgia, a fellow DMT, was starting her rescue course, I told Bryce that I would really like to assist on the course. I had no idea how much of a workout I had signed myself up for.
Week 4 already, time is flying by… Only one more week to go before it’s over. I very much enjoyed week 4 as I got to assist on an open water course with a student from China. He was a very good student, attentive and serious, he did extremely well, so congratulations Ben and enjoy the rest of your diving adventure in Lembeh!
After my first day of diving at Two Fish Divers Lembongan, I walked up to Laurent, the resort manager and told him that I am interested in doing my divemaster course with Two Fish.
This week of my divemaster training was once again a lot of fun, although a little less full on because after my foot injury I managed to give myself a back injury… Not even lifting tanks the wrong way, just simply by pushing it with my legs bent and somehow I must have pulled something in my lower back since I heard a crack… So during those dry days I took my theory exam and standards exam and passed both. After a couple of days everything got into place with my back problems and now it’s business as usual.
Did a day trip – normally planned as 3 fun dives with helping on the boat and carrying tanks etc, but because of strong current it was also helping and co-ordinating the group (with the other both guides).
So I will list my activities and I hope you`ll get a feeling of it all, but there are fundives also, but for example reading a non-diving-book there is not so much time… At the end I will count all dives.
Week 2 of my DM internship at Two Fish Bunaken, continuing to have lots of fun with snorkel expeditions, tried to start guiding guests on dives which I felt a bit nervous about at first but am gradually starting to feel more confident, have been doing demonstration skills and really trying to practice those as much as possible.
I started my Divemaster course on the 18th of October. My plan to do it was very spontaneous (10 days before arriving and 5 days before the flight was i booked…) so thanks to Dani because of her helping emailing so that I had all the information I needed and also helped to book the domestic flight.
After completing my rescue and EFR courses in the Philippines, and a quick stop for some fun diving in Sipadan, I arrived on Bunaken island this week and am very happy to be back. This is the fifth time for me in Bunaken and it really does feel like coming home.
After some hard work, I’m all done!!
Face is painful because of sun burn, hands are tanned like a panda, unknown thick skin growing on the bottom of my feet and muscles sore. But Enjoying the fresh air, sunny days, meeting interesting people from all over the word, diving with all the amazing colorful aquatic life and gaining an unforgettable once in a life experience.
I arrived in Manado, Indonesia the 21st September after a 34h travel from the Seychelles (where I did a Marine Conservation and Research Program before). Therefore it was really late at night when I finally got to Manado, so I had to spend a night there before continuing my travel the next day to Bunaken Island.
This week start has of super busy, as I was more familiar with what I should do every day, and also because I started to do the dive center briefing, boat briefing and dive site briefing, I assist Steph on a open water pool class and open water class, I assist Laurent with dsd open water.
What a week of action! Monday morning started by assisting in an Open Water course in the pool. The afternoon we, some of the customers at the dive resort and several staff members, contributed to the Project AWARE. We went to clean the underwater waste from two diving spots by snorkelling. The week continued by assisting in Rescue course. I was playing again the troubled-diver and we stayed mainly on the surface practicing towing and rescue breathing excercises. The sun was burning hot and left some clearly visible marks on us: in the evening our faces were red like big sweet strawberries.
The second week has gone really fast. I am still in paradise: on tropical island with perfect diving conditions. During the week I have been assisting in two different courses, in Open Water and in Rescue course. In between the courses I had a chance to practice my scuba dive skill demonstrations and do some of my swimming tests.
Choosing Two fish divers for my DMT was a last minute decision. My original plan was going to Thailand where I did my OW and AOW certificates. But just 3 days before I depart, I changed my plan to Lembongan. After a long trip from china, I was super exhausted, but when my little fast boat arrived in Lembongan, the beautiful beach view washed away all my tiredness.
Holiday in paradise! Finally the vacation which i have been waiting for so long. On Monday, at the beginning of this week, I arrived to Bunaken.
