IDC on Bunaken Island

The IDC on Bunaken Island is different from any other location in Indonesia. Bunaken Island is a very relaxed island, and gives you the feeling that you are on a beautiful tropical island….. rather than a city on an island that is too developed and flooded by mass tourism.

The climate on Bunaken Island is generally 30 degrees Celsius, the water is between 28 - 30 degrees Celsius with a visibility of 20-30m average. Bunaken Island is part of the Bunaken National Marine Park and is kept remote and free from mass tourism and tour density experienced in other locations like Bali. It is very un-spoilt and undeveloped and offers some of the best diving in Indonesia, and this makes Bunaken Island the perfect location for an Instructor Development Course.

Bunaken Island is very close to the city of Manado, and this is easily reached from Singapore & Kuala Lumpur, and other Indonesian cities such as Bali and Jakarta. With the accommodation based at the Two Fish Divers resort on Bunaken Island, it provides the perfect setting for an IDC program requiring your full attention.

Classroom

classroom We have a purpose built classroom with air-conditioner and tv. During the classroom sessions we make extensive use of slides as well as videos to make it more fun.

Skill Practise

practise During the IDC Prep we will be spending time reviewing your underwater skills to refine them for teaching.

During the IDC there will also be sessions to build on your skills, but they will be focused on how to teach the PADI courses, so if you are unsure about your skills then its better to attend the Prep.

Workshops

workshop In order to teach some of the PADI Advanced Course and Specialities, you need to be able have some "extra" skills such as tie-ing a reef knot or deploy a lifting bag. However, not everyone knows how to do these, so we conduct workshops in the evenings that cover these extra skills.

Rescue Practise

more-resecue Between every water session you will be practicing your rescue skills, and after about 12 times you start to get the hang of it! Our belief is that you cannot teach the PADI Rescue Course unless you can rescue someone yourself "with your eye's closed".

Real-life experiences

open-water-briefing We try and make your IDC as real as it can be, after all as an instructor you are going to be spending alot of your time in or near the water! We therefore make you conduct many briefings and debriefings in the water and on the boat.

Primary Objective

ie-easy Our overall objective is to teach you how to be a GREAT PADI Instructor.

Passing the IE is a secondary objective, it is NOT the primary objective, and this is what makes us different from other IDC courses. We believe that if you teach IDC students how to be GREAT instructors, then the IE is just a formality.

One of our IDC candidates sent us his IDC pictures on Flickr.

Job Placement

Many people ask us about jobs after the IDC. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee any jobs as Bunaken and Lembeh are not on the main-stream holiday route. However, with Brendons contacts in Thailand and in other countries on SE Asia, he is well placed to help place students with their first job as a PADI Instructor.
