Have more adventure with
the Two Fish Specialty Programme

Our specialty programme can be run from our operation on Bunaken or on Lembeh, its a great way to dive Bunaken, Manado and Lembeh.

Scroll down for more information on the programme or click on the following hot-links:

The programme consists of the following specialties:

Dive

Description

Navigation Diving

The Navigation course consists of three open water training dives and includes the following:

  • the planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of underwater navigation.

  • methods of estimating distances underwater.

  • natural navigation techniques.

  • using underwater patterns.

  • dive site relocation techniques.

  • compass navigation techniques.

The last dive is a treasure-hunt dive where we will lay out a course with markers at different locations. Each marker contains the reference to get to the next marker, and the last marker contains the treasure.

Deep Diving

The Deep Diving course consists of four open water training dives and includes the following:

  • planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of deep diving

  • risk factors and decompression-tables review

  • safety stops and emergency decompression procedures

  • special equipment, descent lines and buoyancy-control considerations

  • procedures for flying after diving and high-altitude diving

  • orientation to recompression chambers

We conduct the dives at normal dive sites and we include sites where there are some special things to see, eg a school of patrolling black tip reef sharks, or deep ledges with strong currents.

Wreck Diving

The Wreck Diving course consists of four open water training dives and includes the following:

  • the planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of wreck diving

  • the preparation and use of lights, air supplies, special equipment, penetration lines and reels

  • limited-visibility diving techniques and emergency procedures

At Bunaken, the dives will be conducted on our local ship wreck which is a 65m cargo ship that sunk over 50 years ago. The dives include mapping the wreck, doing a night dive on the wreck and doing a penetration dive of the wreck. This is also a great option in Lembeh as there are some wrecks that are similar size and larger.

Night Diving

The Night Diving course consists of three open water training dives and includes the following:

  • the planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of night diving

  • proper procedures for buoyancy control, navigation and communication

  • use of dive lights and buddy-system techniques

  • disorientation and emergency procedures

  • orientation to nocturnal aquatic life

The dives are conducted at three different dive sites so that you will get experience of three types of environments - walls, reef slopes and sandy slopes.

Search and Recovery Diving

The Search and Recovery Diving course consists of four open water training dives and includes the following:

  • the planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems, and hazards of search and recovery diving

  • limited-visibility diving and underwater navigation techniques

  • proper techniques and safety considerations for object location, including the use of various search patterns, lines and reels

  • proper techniques and safety considerations for recovery of objects using various lifting devices

During the dives, we will recover one of our boat engines using lifting bags, and move/re-position one of our diving bouys. New feature for Bunaken Island and Lembeh Island

Digital Underwater Photography

The Digital Underwater Photography course consists of two open water training dives and includes the following:

  • basic digital underwater photography

  • more advanced digital underwater photography and techniques

  • a workshop that includes use of computers for downloading, backing-up, sorting etc of digital images

We will be taking underwater photo's of marine life as well as divers, and the workshop will result in a computer slideshow to the rest of our guests at dinner-time.

Underwater Naturalist

The Underwater Naturalist course consists of two open water training dives and includes the following:

  • the planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of diving in different aquatic environments.

  • a basic overview of major aquatic life groupings (kingdoms and phyla).

  • factual information that dispels myths of potentially dangerous aquatic life.

  • an overview of basic aquatic life interactions and associations.

  • responsible human interactions with aquatic life.

  • diving technique used to help preserve bottom dwelling aquatic life and minimize aquatic life disturbance.

Bunaken Marine Park is considered to have the greatest marine diversity in the world and is therefore a great place to do this course. However, this is a great course in Lembeh as you will not see some of the underwater critters any where else in the world.

Peak Performance Buoyancy

The Peak Performance Bouyancy course consists of two open water training dives and includes the following:

  • Peak Performance Buoyancy fundamentals: buoyancy check, fine-tuning buoyancy underwater, weight position and distribution, streamlining, and visualization.

  • use of PADI’s “Basic Weighting Guidelines.”

  • an opportunity to polish buoyancy control beyond the Open Water Diver level -
    • positioning and distributing weight for comfort and desired body position (trim in the water)
    • visualization techniques prior to dives
    • buoyancy checks
    • establishing neutral buoyancy during all segments of a dive
    • fine-tuning neutral buoyancy underwater
    • hovering

We make this a bit more fun by setting up an underwater obstacle course for you to practice the above techniques, and we will guarantee that the course will dramatically improve your time underwater.

How much are specialty courses? We think that these courses should be affordable, and they are alot of fun for the instructor as well as the student. The courses consist of different numbers of open water training dives, and our prices are therefore based on prices per dive in addition to the normal price of fun dives:

Course dives
Manual and certification card*
Nitrox Manual & certification card*
Certification card**

€10/dive
€36*
€50**
€22***

*** For courses with no manual, or where student already has manual

How PADI Specialty Courses link with the PADI Advanced Course
Each dive on the advanced course is the first dive of the specialty course. For example, the deep dive on the advanced course is the first dive of the Deep Diving specialty course. You can therefore do the specialty courses in one of two ways:

  • Already Advanced Open Water? - you will have already done 5 dives from 5 specialty courses: the deep dive and navigation dive and three other optional dives. You can choose to continue with these specialty courses (the dive you did on the advanced course is considered the first dive of the specialty course), or you can choose a specialty course that is different to what you did on your Advanced Open Water course.

  • Not yet Advanced Open Water? - many of the specialties can be done if you are only certified as Open Water Diver, and the first dives on all specialty courses can be credited to your Advanced Open Water course at a later stage.

Specialty courses and the Master Scuba Diver (MSD) rating
The MSD rating is the highest PADI non-professional rating for scuba divers. For those who want to go into the dive business to work then the divemaster course should be the first level to aim for. However, for those who just want to have fun and want to extend their knowledge and experience in their hobby, then the MSD is the level to aim for.

Being a MSD means being a member of PADI - once you have reached the necessary requirements, you need to apply to PADI for the rating, and as a member of PADI you receive quarterly mailings with news, magazine and special offers.

Requirements for MSD:

  • 5 specialties, and

  • PADI advanced open water certificate, and

  • PADI rescue diver certificate, and

  • at least 50 logged dives

As an incentive, if you do 5 specialties with us, we will give you a free fun dive for free. We hope that you will take up this challenge!
