This week in Bunaken… PADI Open Water students Katharina and Johannes from Germany got an exceptional treat during their open water dive 3 when a large thresher shark came cruising up from the depths to have a closer look at them! Thresher sharks are deep water sharks that sometimes come up to shallow cleaning stations to get parasites and dead skin removed by cleaner fish.
An interesting fact about sharks is that they do not have a single bone in their bodies! Their skeleton is completely made of cartilage and it is the same for rays!
The full moon has come and gone this week leaving us with a fairly calm surface and currents next to nothing. This has not meant that all our big beauties of the ocean have disappeared alongside with them. On our dives out in Belongas Bay, South Lombok this week we have been lucky enough to encounter groups of white tip reef sharks, at least four each time. Some gracefully chilling out in the blue next to reef while other’s were spotted taking it easy under an overhang.
THIS WEEK IN LEMBONGAN……… Manta Rays, Mola Molas and sharks in Lembongan, have been apart of our exciting encounters! Everyone over the last week from, discover scuba divers to experienced divers, have had the chance to dance with these giants. Even getting close enough to snap this perfect Manta Ray Identification photo.
