/// tec gas blended course

Being able to blend the gases required for technical diving is among the most valuable skills for anyone seriously interested in technical diving or even considering becoming a technical diving instructor. The Tec Gas Blender course covers equipment requirements for diving with more than 40% oxygen, cleaning standards, air quality requirements and much more. We also spend time blending actual deco gases using the facilities of our deco gas supplier Villa Alba. This is a great course to combine with our decompression diving courses: it will increase your understanding of gas behaviour and you will actually get to use the gas you’ve blended.

TDI Tec Diving Courses

/// Open Circuit TEC Diving Courses

The Intro to Tech course teaches you how to manage twin-banded cylinders. You learn to manage buoyancy control and trim with added equipment , improve your finning techniques and learn new ones. On top of that, you will find out more about dive planning and technical diving equipment, too. Essential for those looking for a way into technical diving.

Prerequisites:

  • Open Water Diver with 25 logged dives
  • Minimum age of 18 (15 with parental consent)
The TDI Advanced Nitrox Course qualifies divers to use enriched air nitrox from EAN 21 through EAN 100 within your current certification level to a maximum
depth of 40 metres during dives that do not require staged decompression.

Often taught in conjunction with the TDI Intro to Tech and Decompression Procedures courses, this can be considered the foundation of your technical diving career. Advanced Nitrox is also a great course for those wanting to extend their bottom times in shallower depths such as scientific diver, and a must for SCR or CCR divers.

You will learn about:

  • Equipment requirements
  • Dive Planning
  • Oxygen tracking
  • Blending methods

ADVANCED NITROX Prerequisites:

  • Open Water Diver or equivalent
  • PADI / TDI Nitrox diver or equivalent
  • 25 logged dives
  • Minimum 15 years of age (18 years if thought in conjunction with TDI Decompression Procedures course)
As sport divers planned decompression is not something that we do or have been taught. The TDI Decompression Procedures course prepares you for planned staged decompression diving. With a maximum operating depth of 45m, this course is your first step beyond the normal sport diving limits.

You will learn about:

  • Kit set-up
  • Equipment requirements
  • Decompression techniques
  • Decompression breathing gases
  • Gas management
  • Contingency planning
  • Problem solving procedures

The TDI Decompressions Procedures course combined with the TDI Intro to Tech and Advanced Nitrox courses form the foundation of all other technical courses. After these two courses and some additional experience, the stage has been set for you to move onto additional technical levels.

DECOMPRESSION PROCEDURES Prerequisites:

  • Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent
  • 25 logged dives
  • Minimum 18 years of age
This course teaches you to utilise air as a deep diving gas which is especially useful in areas offering spectacular technical dives beyond 40 meters without ready access to helium. Students learn about the procedures, equipment requirements and hazards involved in deep air diving with two different decompression gases.

We will cover:

  • History of deep air diving; Physics & Physiology
  • Dive tables, planning and procedures
  • Stress recognition and mitigation
  • and much more

Prerequisites:

  • TDI Advanced Nitrox & Deco Procedures diver or equivalent
  • 100 logged dives, 25 of which are deeper than 30 metres
  • Minimum age of 18 years
Diving to depths beyond 50 m incurs a high level of nitrogen narcosis and diving with Trimix (a combination of helium, oxygen and nitrogen) rather than air helps divers avoid this. On this course, divers learn to plan and execute decompression dives using normoxic trimix (18-21% oxygen content) to a maximum depth of 60 m.This is taking your decompression diving to a whole new level and apart from discovering the benefits of Trimix diving, you will also learn to plan and execute dives using two different decompression gases.

The TDI Trimix Diver course is open to students after their Decompression Procedures (or PADI Tec45) course, assuming they have at least 100 logged dives.

/// SDI Solo Diving Courses

Whilst the buddy system is a great way to dive, there may be situations when divers have to rely on themselves to dive safely or would choose to explore on their own. TDI’s recreational sister agency, SDI, offers the only genuine solo diving qualification currently available. Who is it for? Underwater photographers who prefer to take all the time in the world to get that perfect shot, divers booking single spaces on charters or liveaboards who would like to avoid diving with less qualified buddies, dive professionals who frequently find themselves looking after non-certified divers and those who would simply like to dive more safely.

The course covers:

  • Equipment considerations
  • Gas planning
  • Contingency planning & emergencies
  • Navigation

Prerequisites:

  • Open Water Diver with four specialities or equivalent
  • 100 logged dives
