With side mount getting more and more popular it was just a question of time when the first PADI sidemount course would take place here at Two Fish Divers.
Having just started a new and exciting joint venture with the technical diving company Blue Label Diving in Phuket, Thailand we were pleasantly surprised and excited that our virgin course here turned out to be just that one.
It might have been that Maria from Sweden started diving just four months ago but her goal to be eventually qualified as a cave diver and to do some cold water diving in the Swedish mines with her buddies brought her here and as an aim to get to that goal PADI Tec Sidemount course was her first step.
New configuration, some added complexness that having three or four tanks brings along with new routines like valve and S-drills made the learning curve quite steep but Maria was on top of her game throughout the whole course.
The eventual course the way we run it here consist of theory overview, a thorough equipment workshop and a long afternoon in the pool followed by four dives over the next two days. We try to keep the afternoons deliberately free if there is a need for additional pool or equipment configuration session.
Once again – well done Maria and thank’s for being our first PADI TecSidemount student here on Bunaken!
We were also joined by Kate and Kelly from X-Ray magazine on couple of occasion to shoot some awesome photos. Kate (a qualified sidemount diver herself) took the above picture of the course on a dive around Manado Tua island.
Our tec section is up and running with courses from sidemount to rebreathers from PADI and TDI on the menu. So for those of you interested have a look at the tec section on our web page or drop as an e-mail for some additional information.
