Weekly Summary #4, Dec 2013
TEC is back in Bunaken!! Hiro & Sandy, our tec instructors, arrived and got straight to work. In travel news, Lembongan was voted the 2nd best island in Asia! And on the conservation front, we highlight Shark Savers campaign to protect Manta Rays.
Weekly diving round-up: a whale shark was spotted in Bunaken, we’ve had a Frogfish-tastic week in Lembeh, and we’ve had some good sightings of white-tip sharks in Lembongan.
This week in Lembeh
We’ve had a Frogfish-tastic week with lots of different species: Hairy, Giant, Painted, Warty / Clown, all of varying colours and sizes… AND we found three Sargassum frogfish when cleaning our beach in front of the resort!
Other highlights include Mimic Octopus, Wunderpus and still a couple of Blue Ringed Octopus, Halimeda and Ornate Ghost Pipefish, Paddleflap and Weedy Rhinopias, Harlequin Shrimp, Tiger Shrimp as well as Denise and Pontohi Pygmy Seahorses. Thanks to Dave for the great photo of the tiny Froggie.
That concludes our last update before Christmas, so Merry Christmas from the Lembeh team.
This week in Bunaken
We are still having good weather and visibility of about 20 meter+. We were very fortunate to dive in Lekuan I as we saw a big Whale shark!! This proves that anything can be seen in Bunaken.
We have also been seeing the regular stuff like Blacktip reef shark, Whitetip reef shark, Napoleon, Barracuda, Dogtooth tuna, Yellowfin tuna, Dolpin, Eagle ray, Boxer crabs, Candy crabs, Orangutang crabs, Batfish, Leaf scorpionfish, Scorpionfish, Double-headed parrotfish, Ornate ghostpipefish, Halimeda ghostpipefish, and alot of Green Turtles on almost every dive. Phew, juts too much to take in sometimes!
This week in Lembongan, Bali
It’s been a time to say farewell to new friends by welcoming back some of the old – on their final day of diving, new Divemasters Tim and Sara were treated to the sight of a bamboo shark and two white tip reef sharks at Blue Corner dive site, and on the second dive of the day, another 17 individual manta rays at their feeding station. Thanks to Theresia Gollner for this photograph!
We also found a giant green frogfish and rumour has it there’s been a juvenile blue-ringed octopus seen, but we’re going to need photographic evidence!
It’s been raining a lot, but that hasn’t stopped our hardy open water students, and the water is warm enough again that board shorts and rashies are the dive gear of choice again! Looking forward to some summertime diving in the currents of Nusa Lembongan!

TEC is back in Bunaken!! Hiro & Sandy, tec instructors with Blue Label Diving Indonesia (our tec partners), arrived last week and got straight to work with their first Intro to TEC in Bunaken! Every one tried MKVI Rebreather and Sidemount diving. We had alot of interesting open discussions about what is tec, and one of the guests, Jane, loved it so much that she went on and completed the Advanced Nitrox! Thanks alot to Leigh, Steve, Jill, Jane and Todd for joining us!
Blue Label Diving Indonesia will be running free Intro to TEC sessions every week, next is your turn!?
Nusa Lembongan was voted the second best island in 2013 in the Tripadvisor Travelers Choice for 2013!! Another great reason to visit us.
Another reason that we like Shark Savers is that they are also involved in protecting Manta Rays, something that is an important part of the environment in Two Fish Divers Lembongan where we have almost-permanent sightings of these fantastic creatures.
