It has been another epic month here when diving in Nusa Lembongan, the oceans have been gifting us with all sorts of wonders. Over at Manta Point there have been so many manta’s coming in to feed and be cleaned giving all the divers amazing close encounters 20 plus with each visit! At the north end of Nusa Penida we have also been very lucky with sightings of the magnificent Mola Ramsiay cruising along the reef only at 20m deep but we have also been treated to a very very rare sighting of a Thresher Shark, which is typically a very deep water shark only occasionally coming up to the shallow waters to be cleaned!!
We have also had a very successful IDC (instructor development course) running this month in which all 8 candidates passed with ease, after 14 days of intense study and training!!! It was fun for the whole team watching these guys progress onto the next level, now they all get to have the fun of teaching, and introducing people to the wonderful underwater jungle!!!
Also this month we had the first of the high season LMA (Lembongan Marine Association) meetings in which all the dive centers here on Lembongan meet to set the safe diving standards and procedures, and dive site rules for the high season in order for us all to ensure the diving around these parts is as safe as possible for all who want to come and dive this magical and protected marine environment! At the meeting we were also very lucky to meet the LST (Lembongan Surf Team) who came to tell us about their rubbish and recycling program they run. These guys will literally come and collect rubbish or recycling from anywhere on the island and take it to the various locals who will use it to supply an income for their family’s! The LST do this for free, which really is an amazing thing to do for the island and local community! Check them out online to see if you can join them for one of their Sunday beach cleans too!!
