This week in Gili Air, North Lombok we have been cracking on with our free try dives in the swimming pool at Villa Karang, Gili Air. We have been in the water all week with beginners, as well as offering refreshers for divers that have been out of diving for a year or two.
On the dive sites with our students we have been spotting mainly shrimps – squat shrimps, banded boxer shrimps, translucent cleaner shrimp and peacock tail anemone shrimps. Great macro for the camera lovers!
We have also been looking for new dive sites to add to our map. So far we we have Biorocks on the south east side of Gili Trawangan, an artificial reef covered with soft and hard corals mainly attracting razor fish, cuttle fish, scorpion fish and bat fish, a very nice relaxing dive.
The other dive sites we have found are:
- bat fish point, perfect for discover scuba divers and open water dives. Very flat with massive boulders covered with reef fish, turtles, flounders, peacock mantis shrimps, anemones and shrimps.
- a site on the south side if Gili Air on the way to Lombok mainland, a huge reef around 17 meters, a flat very gentle sloping bottom. This site attracts schooling fish such as trevally, bat fish, barracuda and tuna. It offers stingrays, turtles, white tip reef sharks, shrimps, crabs and garden ells scattered around the sandy patches.
We are aiming to continue our search for reefs around the north gili islands until we find all and have such a diverse option for all divers.
