This week in Lembongan… For those that have been keeping up with our blogs from Lembongan, you will know that a few weeks ago, the big waves kept us from getting to the manta dive sites and then last week, the waves dropped down, but there was a lack of manta rays. The great news is, the manta rays are back in Manta Bay and Manta Point!Over the last few days, at least 1 of our boats has been out to one of the manta sites. The start of the week was slow, with again, very little manta sightings, but then, all of a sudden, just as quickly as they despaired, they were back! The mantas are back in good numbers as well. With boats spotting up to 20+ manta rays in Manta point and us spotting around 7 in Manta Bay yesterday. They are not just feeding or clearing, our divers have been mating trains, playful behavior and just swimming around. There are also a lot of pregnant manta rays around that are looking very fat. The only ever time a manta ray has been seen giving birth, is in an aquarium, it has never been seen in the wild. If you are coming diving with us over the next week, maybe you are the lucky one!
We have also got information from the manta research team on the island, some mantas that were seen to be very pregnant a few weeks ago, are no longer. Instructor Rowan spotted a very small manta ray at Manta Bay yesterday, so it looks like these babies already know where the good food is.
