The North Gilis, Lombok this week we have had a big…actually that’s not the word, a humongous surprise. We saw a Scalloped Hammerhead, yes indeed a Hammerhead! the other day he was cruising along Manta Point on the south side of Gili Trawangan.
Our dive guides Jaka and Ipan were with a couple of fun divers Nick and Anne from the Netherlands when they had this encounter. Nick and Anna originally wanted to go to Shark point as Sharks were all they wanted to see, but then we have been seeing a few more at Manta Point so we suggested that dive site instead. They agreed and off we went. Expecting White tip reef sharks and black tip reef sharks to then see the ultimate Hammerhead was out of this world they said! What a lucky couple, just goes to show that you never know what may pass you by when your on your underwater adventure.
We have also been very busy with courses this week here on the Gilis, we have had a rescue course, Scuba diver courses and open water courses. The North Gilis are ideal for courses as its crystal clear water full of a vast variety of sea life such as Turtles, Reef sharks, a variety of Shrimps and Crabs from big to small, sweetlips, schooling Trevally and Barracuda, Bat fish, Pipe fish of all kinds, Nudibranchs and many more. Not only are the North Gilis good for the activities on land but they are also good for the diverse underwater world.
