North Lombok, the Gili islands this week the water has been calm, clear and perfect for diving!! It has also dropped a bit in temperature, we have averaged at 29 but with all the thermoclines we have been getting 28 and with this we have been spotting a lot more ornate ghost pipefish hiding around the feather stars on various dive sites.
We have seen the black ones as well as the red. Robust ghost pipefish we have been seeing the whole season but just lately the ornate. They are so beautiful and graceful; you could just stare at them for hours given the chance.
We have also been doing a lot of introduction dives (Discover Scuba) this week which has been nice to show newbies what beauty lies beneath the water. You really just get a glimpse while snorkeling when in fact there are thousands of species that really need to be seen and appreciated.
We have also had a group joining us from Belgium, Hans, Guy, Karla, Chantel and Eric. All very experienced divers that came here for the first time for a couple of days diving then head off down to the South Gili’s for 3 more days. They told us that they thoroughly enjoyed their time here and saw such a variety of sea life that they were surprised.
It is nice to have feedback like that from experienced divers as we usually get here on the North Gili’s newbies.
Turtles have been everywhere again this week as well as Peacock mantis shrimp, blue fin trevally, stingrays, nudibranchs, lobsters, shrimps, emperor fish, moray eels and plenty more. We have been visiting Turtle Heaven a lot lately mainly because for the duration of the whole dive there is sea life everywhere..wherever you look there is a different fish swimming by. Such a mind blowing dive.
