PADI Divemaster Trainee in Gili Air: Week 2
I have been able to finish all the theory’s Knowledge Reviews of the Divemaster Manual, assist my instructors on several courses (PADI Discover Scuba Diving, Advanced Open Water course), conduct a PADI ReActivate program (and then buddy up with the ReActivated diver for two fun dives) and proceed with the equipment exchange (one of the five exercise of the Waterskills and Stamina section of the training) and enjoyed a lot of fun dives as well. During one of those, we have been lucky enough to find the Glenn Nusa I wreck – an unexpected surprise – what a great second week for me as a Divemaster Trainee in Gili Air!!
As a collaborative project between all the Gili Air Dive Centers (including Two Fish Divers) and the Gili Eco Trust, a tug boat was deliberately scuttled in 2016 in order to create a BioRock structure and an exciting new dive site. The wreck lies at 28 meters deep on a flat sandy bottom west of Gili Trawangan (between Shark Point and Halik) and is only accessible when the currents are at their lowest.
We (fun divers) were not expecting it (I had heard about it but didn’t think I would ever see it) but Jen, our dive guide, knew exactly where he was leading us! We ended our tour of the wreck by admiring a White Tip Reef shark lounging in the sand a couple of meters away from us – a great end to an already awesome dive!
This made me even more excited for my coming move from being a Divemaster Trainee in Gili to Two Fish Divers Amed to complete of the PADI Wreck Diver Specialty and the end of my Divemaster training there!
