The blue spotted ribbontail stingray is commonly found in Indo-Pacific waters, including around the Gili Islands, as captured in the lovely photo above by our guest, Christina Alexander (check out more of Christina’s images on Instagram: @existence_now). This ribbontail stingray was spotted at our Gili “Shark Point” dive site last week. We most often find the blue spotted ribbontail stingray hiding in the sand or underneath some coral, however, occasionally we see them out swimming to settle in a new sandy spot or congregate with a few other rays. The striking blue spots on their bodies and streaks on their tails act as a warning to other marine life that they are venomous. When threatened, like other stingrays, the blue spotted ribbontail stingray uses the venomous barbs on its tail to defend itself and they are able to regenerate the barbs if they break off. As with most marine life, they are not a threat to humans (but humans are a threat to them)!

Diya and Max took their PADI Open Water Course in Gili with Instructor Komang
In other news from Two Fish Gili Air Resort this week it has been a busy week for us with the holiday season. Diya and Max continued their PADI Junior Open Water Course with instructor Komang. They were so excited and had a lot of fun with the course, always keeping smiles on their faces and on the faces of our staff! Congratulations to these two on becoming certified divers!

Diya and Max are now officially certified PADI Junior Open Water Divers
We also welcomed Jo and David for nine days of diving with us during their long holiday. This couple has been diving with the Two Fish family in other locations before, but this is their first time visiting us on Gili Air! As photographers, they are never bored with all the tiny critters our guides can point out to them.
2020 seems to have brought with it a bit more rain, but we don’t mind! It helps break up the hot days and it doesn’t affect the diving conditions around the Gili Islands. In fact, it’s warmer under the water than it is topside in some cases, so we are all happy to go diving during the rainy spells!

Another successful beach cleanup to start the new year
On Thursday we had our bi-weekly beach cleanup and our team worked hard to cleanup the stretch of beach in front of our dive centre and some of the local kids also got involved and helped us out. We are always thrilled when the local population gets involved and it is a great opportunity to educate the younger generation!
We look forward to seeing what else 2020 has in store, so join us here at Two Fish Gili Air! For more information or to make a booking, fill in the form below and we will get right back to you!
