In Belongas, South Lombok this week we have had schools and schools of barracudas!!!
Waves have been calm, mild currents all week and still plenty of pelagic.
The schools of Great Barracudas usually hang around10-15 meters, a beautiful sight to drop down to and to look up to when reaching the maximum depth of 30 meters. The schools have consisted of around 30-60 in each reaching 1 meters in length. An average size for great Barracudas but they can reach up to around 2 meters.
Stefen and Sandra from Germany joined us for two days and were in ore of the silver beauties. Shame that the visibility was not so great averaging at 15 meters so the shots did not come out as wanted but the sight was enough for our guests and they thoroughly enjoyed their experience with us in Belongas.
Other than the Barracudas our guests and dive guide Pi’i have been spotting White Tip Reef Sharks, Eagle Rays, Scalloped Hammerheads, Trevally, nudiebranch’s, Bamboo Sharks and our resident Painted Frogfish at our dive site “ Gili Sarang”.
As the full moon has come and gone we expect calm conditions for most of the month. Belongas trips are still running…lets pray for pelagic’s to hang around longer!!!
